Cookie policy

Pet Persona uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies (such as your browser's local storage). Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and the equivalent EU rules, we may use those that are strictly necessary without asking; anything else needs your consent first.

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you allow analytics and marketing cookies. "Accept all" and "Reject all" are equally easy, and nothing optional is set until you choose.

Changing your choice

You can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page, or, when you are signed in, under Account > Privacy. If you withdraw consent, analytics stops straight away and nothing more is sent. We ask again after 12 months.

Strictly necessary

These make the site work and keep it secure. They can't be switched off.

• consent: remembers your cookie choices and when you made them. If you are signed in, your choices are also stored with your account. Lasts 12 months.
• better-auth.session_token (__Secure-better-auth.session_token on the live site): keeps you signed in. Lasts up to 30 days, renewed while you use Pet Persona; removed when you sign out.
• Other better-auth.* cookies: short-lived values that protect sign-in (for example the security check when you sign in with Google or Apple, which stops cross-site request forgery). They last a few minutes.
• Stripe sets cookies on the payment form to prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie policy.
• Cloudflare Turnstile may set a cookie or use local storage on some forms to check you're not a bot.

Preferences

• theme (local storage, not a cookie): remembers light or dark mode.

Analytics (only with your consent)

We use these to understand how Pet Persona is used, so we can improve it. They set no cookies and collect nothing until you choose "Accept all" or turn analytics on.

• PostHog (EU hosting): records page views and button presses. We don't record your screen, we don't store your IP address with events, we strip anything after "?" from web addresses, and if you are signed in we identify you only by an internal account number, never your name or email. Uses ph_<project key>_posthog (a cookie and local storage holding a random id), lasting up to 1 year.
• Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC): counts visits and pages viewed. We use Google's Consent Mode v2: until you agree, Google Analytics sets no cookies, and if you reject or withdraw consent it stays that way. With your consent it uses _ga and _ga_<id>, holding a random id, lasting up to 2 years. Google may transfer this data to the USA, under the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU standard contractual clauses (see the privacy notice).

Marketing

We don't use any marketing or advertising cookies. The banner asks about them in advance so that, if we ever add one, we already know your choice; we will list it here before we do.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary ones, you won't be able to sign in.
